Yoshi The Talent
The talent known as Yoshi, was born in Brooklyn NY. Yoshi is a first generation American from parents that were both born in Barbados. Yoshi’s love for music is undeniable, she has been singing since age 8, and has never thought about doing anything else. As a little girl her father brought her a tape recorder so that she could practice singing Whitney Houston songs, from then she knew she had a passion for singing.
Yoshi’s first form of training was from the director of The Jackie Robinson Steppers Marching Band, which she joined in High School her sophomore year under the tutelage of Tyrone Brown. Yoshi also has had formal voice coaching from Criag Derry who has worked with the likes of Alicia Keys, Lil Mo, and prominent superstars. Yoshi credits her true inspiration to Michael Jackson , Chaka Khan , Jackson 5 , Beyonce Knowles, Sam Cooke , Stacy Lattisaw , Teena Marie, Brandy Norwood, Patti Labelle , Mariah Carey , Whitney Houston, Jackie Wilson, The Supremes and so many more great artist of the past.
Yoshi’s musical attraction has always been drawn from the Motown sound which influenced her own strong powerful sound. Yoshi voiced that, “Another reason why I love this particular sound is because it was a movement that started in the 1960's where everything was changing, laws, politics, and the civil rights movement. The music spoke volumes of the time period, and captured the hearts of millions world wide, that is my goal. I want to speak to the world through song, and make a difference.
